Today is all about soaking in Lhasa’s spiritual energy. We\u2019ll visit the iconic Potala Palace, the winter residence of the Dalai Lama that dominates the city’s skyline. Afterward, we\u2019ll head to the sacred Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibet. Step outside into the bustling Barkhor Market, where you can join local pilgrims walking their daily kora (prayer circuit) amidst stalls selling incense, prayer wheels, and turquoise jewelry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We dive deeper into Tibetan Buddhism today. First, we visit Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in the world. Wake up early to catch the first rays of sunlight hitting Everest. After breakfast, we say goodbye to the high Tibetan plateau and begin a dramatic descent. As we drive toward the border town of Kerung (2,300m), you will watch the barren, wind-swept desert landscape transform into lush green hills and cascading waterfalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We wrap up our epic overland loop today. After clearing customs at the border, we cross back into Nepal.
